I love young children with every fiber of my being.
I’m one of those wacky mamas who smiles, and locks eyes, and attempts to communicate with babies and toddlers everywhere I see them. Those early years are so wondrous – full of learning what Earth is, what family is, what society is, what’s possible, what’s acceptable, what’s right and wrong.
It’s well documented that the first 7 years of a child’s life are the most powerful for setting the stage for life. Some institutions have co-opted those years to indoctrinate young humans, and I feel that this mis-use of power is one of the great problems in our world. In fact, the entire education system has become more about creating obedience, than intellect; memorization instead of debate. It is wrong on so many levels.
My vision for the j’Aquaire Quantum Academy has been brewing for the past 10 years. I did receive my Bachelors in Music Education but I veered off on a different path, realizing at the last minute that I would have been putting myself into a system that I already realized was rotten. I taught in other capacities, but the drive to work with the youngest humans, in order to empower their lives, has become the primary vision for my future.
My son is 17 and about to graduate high school. He is the quintessential Common Core/Lockdown generation, but as I took it upon myself to educate him in what I consider important, he is advanced in comparison to his peer group in terms of intellect, worldliness, empathy, integrity and self-control. I wanted very much to home school him but his father wouldn’t have it, and as it turned out my son is very resistant to learning from me when I am overtly trying to teach him something. (How many parents can relate!) However, he revealed time and time again that he was willing to learn via eavesdropping and example, and that was a huge lesson for me in the art of COVERT PARENTING.
So, with my son about the fly the nest, I am beginning to turn my attention to how best to launch the Quantum Academy. I believe that Rudolph Steiner had the right idea when he said, “Children are not buckets to be filled, but fires to ignite.” That is the true beauty and genius of early childhood education – allowing, introducing, engaging and spending tons of time outdoors in nature. Having time filled with stories and music and art and play, with gentle guides who seek only to protect and help, but never impose.
It’s time to get back to being the BEST we can be as a species integrated on Earth, and we must start with the youngest.
The first iteration of the Quantum Academy will launch in Fall, 2021.
